Award Program
Background
The intent of this program is:
-
to provide assistance that will foster the growth of interest in Gilbert
& Sullivan operettas in the community,
-
to maintain the traditions of the Gilbert & Sullivan genre,
-
to create an opportunity for youth involvement,
-
to encourage artistic excellence,
-
to develop a talent bank for future productions of Gilbert & Sullivan operettas,
-
to stimulate a wider appreciation of the G & S genre.
The Society will award a $2,000 scholarship to an accredited institution in
the Region of Waterloo or Wellington County that produces a full-scale production
of any of the 14 Gilbert & Sullivan operettas. The scholarship is designed to
assist with production costs as there are no royalty fees for producing
Gilbert & Sullivan works. As part of the scholarship, members of the
Waterloo Regional Gilbert & Sullivan Society will be available for
assistance and advice on the mounting of the production.
